I'd like to discuss some of the animal skins, or to be precise: color palettes that did not make it into the final game we've all come to love in here.

Guys, there's a pain in my heart... A while ago I decided to go spelunking in regard to some tidbits related to the game. It got to a point where I stumbled upon the beta version from 3 years ago. Unfortunately, I, myself, missed the chance to experience it firsthand, joining the party just ten minutes too late when it officially closed.
The stuff I found is keeping me pretty bamboozled and I apologize in advance if I bamboozle more unfortunate souls that hadn't known this... But I have to bring this up. I hadn't seen it really discussed before outside of a small Discord mention that had actually prompted me to create this.
I know games can sometimes undergo significant changes: graphics, mechanics and other design ideas. That is understandable, and I like the final look and feel of the game much more than what I see in the beta gameplays.
There's always cut content. Some stuff just gets cut out for various reasons. However, what perplexes me is the removal of a bunch of color palettes that were already created.
Here are a few reasons why this is puzzling:
- They were already created. This is the main point.
- They provided variety to the existing skins, which now seem lacking in diversity.
- In my opinion, they fit within the existing art style nicely.
- Some of the characters in the game have a myriad of skins/variations while others have near to none.
Yes, I get why the Rhino character was cut for example, it seemed a bit outside the art design (the kimono is crazy good though, please bring it back). The same goes for characters that looked like humans in costumes.
However, the issue with color palettes is different. The character itself stays the same; it's just reskins/different textures for them. And some of the cut ones were genuinely precious. More color palettes couldn't hurt, right? Nothing is too crazy, I mean we already have Zombie Rabbits, Acid Green Pigs, and Pink Crocodiles.
Particularly: Fluffy, Kiko and Kato are the 3 poor sods that were just thrown under a circular saw. To be fair, not all of them are simple color swaps; some are authentic to existing dog breeds, like German Shepherd Kato or Dalmatian Fluffy.
You might have unlocked Kiko and Kato skins (exclusive codes you have to activate) and wondered at some point: "Why do they only have one skin?" The simple reasonable answer would be "more to come, I guess". The issue here is that they did have more skins, but those were removed.
