Timing is still important, or you may dropkick into a shovel swing.
As a bit of advice, when I'm disarming someone with chucks or a shovel, I like to dodgeroll back to create some distance and bait out their swing, THEN drop kick them while they're locked into the animation.
Chucks can be a bit tricky because of how fast they swing. If I don't think I can get in with a kick, I'll usually just dodge around and waste their time until they knock themselves, or until an opening for a kick presents itself.
