🦍 Today is World Gorilla Day!
Did you know? A few decades ago, there was an extraordinary gorilla named Koko who learned to communicate with researchers using sign language, who even adopted a kitten. They would play together every day, and Koko would cradle the kitten, gently stroke it, and sign: “Soft. Good. Cat.”
Sadly, one day the kitten slipped away and was killed in a car accident. When the researchers broke the news to Koko, she seemed not to hear them for nearly ten minutes.
In the end, Koko repeatedly signed: “Bad. Sad. Frown. Cry,” and let out the distinctive whimpering sound gorillas make when they're grieving. 😢
