Controller Remapping Issues

Hi, I'm trying to play with a genuine Gamecube controller via a Mayflash Gamecube adapter.
I want to remap punching and kicking to the A and B button on the Gamecube, and map jumping and headbutt to Y and X; this is to make it sort of similar to Super Smash Bros. Melee.
For some reason, it appears the game does NOT allow punching and kicking to be remapped to A and B. Why does that happen?

Hey dude! I remapped most of the controls myself. From what it looks like, it just shows a and b is conflicting with other controls. Did you look throughout the entire key remapping menu to see if it conflicts with anything else?

Hey there,

Sorry for the bad experience.

If you see a red box while reassigning keys, it means the selected key has already been assigned to another function (such as the Space Crisis mode). Please scroll down the Control settings screen to check if any other keys are highlighted in red.
If so, try reassigning that function to a different button, and then proceed to assign the keys you wish to change.
We recommend assigning the function to a key not already in use.
